Previous Exhibitions 2007-2009

Jack Reilly 3.5 - Decades of Art
October 8 - November 6, 2009
The evolution of Jack Reilly's work can be traced back to the early 1970s. As one of the foremost American painters working with shaped canvas, for the past three decades Reilly has maintained his affinity for purity and simplicity in painting, albeit shrouded in complex visual systems and laborious technique. His work blurs the boundaries between painting and sculpture as he employs an array of media, methods, subject and shape in his ongoing explorations into the nature of abstraction in painting.

Anna Siqueiros: Recent paintings
June 11- August 27, 2009
Anna Siqueiros' paintings are personal statements about movement. She expresses that it is a dance about creation and a message and she wants the viewer to feel a sense of peace and tranquility by guiding the eye through time and space—an entrance through passageways of sheer doors and windows that produces another state of mind from the past to the present in to a paralleled universe to bring forth a harmony with ones environment.

Steps of the Synthesized Figure
Paintings by: Chippy Todd, Nicholas Capaldi, James Cox

February 5 - March 6, 2009
Chippy Todd’s paintings focus on shapes and forms, which enable the viewer to recognize the human body without imagery that directly depicts human anatomy. James Cox’s works are colorful mixed media pieces, presented on concrete-like surfaces. His imagery emphasizes relationships between geometric figures, newspapers, and personal iconography. Nicholas Capaldi’s figurative paintings strive to create a new attitude towards ones life, patterns of existence, and introspective depictions of an altered reality. The work explores a process of deconstructing the human form, creating a sense of time lapse and disorientation between the figure and its surrounding environment.

Christphe Bourely: " Simuated Realities"
February 7-29, 2008.
“ Simulated Realities” focuses on the work of CSUCI art faculty member Christophe Bourély. The exhibition explores the postmodern concept of hyper reality. The hyper-real is concerned with the idea of the subjugation of the real by the fictious. Where authenticity, or the original artifact is displaced by an ever-increasing reproduction, and most importantly, when the reproduction becomes realer than the real. Examples of the hyper-real abound in modern life, so much so, that we as a culture become less aware of this simulated reality.
